August Birthstone: Peridot

For those born in August, Peridot is your birthstone.
It is one of very few gems that is found in only one colour and this colour changes depending on the level of iron found within the crystal structure. The level of iron can push the Peridot from a very light yellowy-green, through vibrant grassy greens to olive colours and right through to greeny-browns.
While the stone was originally found in the volcanoes of Hawaii, it is now most commonly supplied by China, Myanmar, Pakistan and the State of Arizona in the US. Popular in Earrings and Bracelets, the Peridot is also valuable when worn close to the heart in pendant form as it is said to increase the power of both traditional and modern medicines.
